German Ambassador to the Philippines Visits FISH Visayas Project Site in Cordova

Cordova, Cebu – His Excellency Dr. Andreas Michael Pfaffernoschke, German Ambassador to the Philippines, paid a significant visit to a FISH Visayas Project site in Brgy. Bangbang, Cordova, Cebu on September 14, 2023. Accompanied by Mrs. Marina Pfaffernoschke and the German Honorary Consul in Cebu, Dr. Franz Seidenshwarz, the Ambassador engaged in a constructive dialogue with partner fisherfolk associations in Cordova, reinforcing the pivotal role played by the project in enhancing their quality of life and ensuring income sustainability.

The project site visit allowed the Ambassador to witness firsthand the positive outcomes achieved through capacity development, improved fishing operations, and the empowerment of women in the fishing communities.

During his visit, Ambassador Pfaffernoschke underscored his keen interest in the FISH Visayas Project as it aligns with Germany’s foreign policy in development cooperation. These encompass the fight against poverty, the enhancement of living conditions, climate change mitigation, and the pursuit of the 2030 development goals. Notably, the Ambassador reaffirmed his unwavering support for the AFOS Foundation and its forthcoming initiatives, expressing his intention to explore additional project sites in the near future.

Part of the activity was a comprehensive project briefing conducted at the Tokyo A, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu. The briefing offered an in-depth overview of the FISH Visayas Project and outlined the itinerary for the site visit. Distinguished attendees included project partners such as the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Region VII, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VII, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region VII, and the Local Government Unit of Cordova.

In a fitting conclusion to his visit to the Philippines, Mr. Norbert Weiss, the outgoing CEO of the AFOS Foundation and Project Management Adviser of the FISH Visayas Project, represented the AFOS Foundation alongside the project management team, led by Ms. Yvette Hope Labus.

The visit of the German Ambassador to the FISH Visayas Project Site serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts aimed at improving the lives and livelihoods of the fishing communities reflecting the positive impact of bridging international cooperation in addressing pressing developmental challenges.
