Alburquerque Fisherfolks, Fish Vendors Immersed in Basic Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurial Mind Setting

Alburquerque, Bohol – On December 04, 2023, a total of 55 fishers and fish vendors from the Western Unified Fisherfolk Association (WUFA) completed the Training on Basic Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurial Mind Setting.

The program spearheaded by the FISH Visayas Project aims at empowering fishers and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the essential skills to manage personal finances adeptly. Significantly, the participants gained insights into setting realistic financial goals, creating effective budget plans to navigate income, expenses, savings, and debts.

The program also delved into business trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies, fostering a deeper understanding of the industry landscape. In parallel, that training have also fostered improved working relations within the associations, emphasizing ownership, collaboration, and productivity among the members of the fisherfolk organizations.

Noteworthy facilitators of the training included Ms. Christine Mae Duan from the Department of Trade and Industry – Bohol Provincial Office and Mr. Janus Arbon representing the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation. Collaborating seamlessly were the Municipal Agriculturist Office of LGU Alburquerque, Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. and AFOS Foundation.

Ultimately, the capacitation of fishers and fish vendors in financial literacy and entrepreneurial competencies signifies a significant step toward creating sustainable income not only for their families but also for the wider community in Alburquerque. This initiative reflects a commitment to fostering economic resilience and prosperity among the local fisherfolk, contributing to the overall development of the locality.
