SIFGA Receive Fingerlings, Boosting Aquaculture

Siquijor, Siquijor – Weeks after an intensive training on bangus fish pen preparation and management conducted by FISH Visayas in partnership with the Siquijor Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc., Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Region 7, and the Local Government Unit of Siquijor, the Siquijor Island Fish Growers Association (SIFGA) has received a significant boost to its aquaculture endeavors.

SIFGA is granted 7,000 bangus fingerlings through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Region 7’s Targeted Actions to Reduce Poverty and Generate Economic Transformation (TARGET) Program. This initiative aims to uplift local fishing communities by providing economic opportunities and fostering sustainable practices.

SIFGA, as one of the beneficiary fisherfolk organization of FISH Visayas is instrumental in the Project’s implementation. The Project has equip its beneficiaries with essential skills in resource management and protection. This holistic approach is crucial for the long-term success of aquaculture projects in the island of Siquijor.



The recent stocking of bangus fingerlings to SIFGA’s newly installed fish pen enclosure aspires to achieve Result Area 1: Training for Fishermen and MSMEs, Result Area 3: Market Access of the FISH Visayas Project and Result Area 4: Resource Protection
