Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu – On October 4, 2024, forty-two (42) fisherfolk from Cordova successfully completed a bookkeeping training program organized through the FISH Visayas Project. The program aimed to strengthen the entrepreneurial capacity of fisherfolk associations, focusing on improving financial management within their operations.
Three fisherfolk organizations participated in the training: Pundok sa Pobreng Mananagat sa Bangbang (PPMB), Kapunongan sa Mananagat sa Ibabao (KAMI), and Pilipog Fisherfolks Association (PIFA). These organizations are involved in milkfish (bangus) aquaculture, which provides their members with sustainable alternative income sources.
The bookkeeping training is designed to enhance the organizations’ ability to manage financial flows, a crucial aspect of their aquaculture operations and future financial transactions. During the sessions, participants learned to record transactions in journals, post accounts in ledgers, classify accounts, and manage cash receipts and disbursement books.
The successful delivery of the training was made possible through the collaboration of FISH Visayas Project partners, including the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AFOS Foundation, and LGU Cordova. The sessions were facilitated by Ms. Rosario Ouano, Finance Manager of AFOS Foundation, with support from the Finance and Admin Services team of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
A follow-up training is scheduled for November 16, 2024, to further equip participants with tools and skills for managing their financial operations. This upcoming session will allow participants to build on their knowledge incrementally and apply the lessons learned in real-world scenarios.
