DUAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN FISHERIES
CCCI Develops and Certifies New In-Company Trainers for the Seafood Processing Sector under Dual Education and Training Program

Cebu City, Cebu – On June 25, 2024, six industry representatives were certified as In-Company Trainers (In-CTs) to implement the Dual Education and Training (DET) Program for the seafood processing sector. This certification process was conducted by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Assessment, Certification, and Accreditation Services (CCCI-ACAS) and supported by the FISH Visayas Project.
The DET Program is a significant advocacy of CCCI, emphasizing the critical role of industry in developing a competent and competitive workforce. It aims to harmonize programs between industry and academia and facilitate intensive in-company training aligned with the standards set by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The In-Company Trainers Training is vital for providing industry representatives with a clear and comprehensive understanding of their role within the DET framework. The training modules are designed to equip participants with the skills needed to effectively transfer knowledge to students and staff. By the end of the program, participants can identify training needs, prepare materials, deliver engaging instruction, and evaluate training effectiveness.
The FISH Visayas project, in collaboration with CCCI, implemented a four-day ToT program for 12 industry representatives from the seafood processing sector. The training began on May 3, 2024, with subsequent sessions on May 9, May 16, and May 30. The assessment phase included a written exam on June 11 and an oral exam on June 25, 2024, conducted by a panel of three assessors: Master Trainers Rudy Menguita, Marlon Valencia, and John Paul Briones.
Out of the 12 participants, six successfully met all assessment requirements and were certified. These new In-Company Trainers come from Siargao’s Bounty Seafoods Corp, HJR International Corporation, Akai Foods, Inc., and Aquatic Phoenix.
The FISH Visayas project will continue to coordinate with the newly certified trainers for the In-Company Training of 25 DET learners from Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology, starting in August 2024. This initiative aligns with the goal of institutionalizing Dual Training Programs in the fisheries sector, ultimately enhancing the skills of trainees and benefiting participating companies.
