San Juan, Siquijor — On January 31, 2025, five members of the Maite Resources Development Association (MRDA) successfully completed the second batch of the Training of Trainers (ToT) program on the Maintenance and Servicing of Electronic-Controlled Timers of Commercial Baking Ovens. The training aims to boost the operational efficiency and sustainability of MRDA’s bakery enterprise—an alternative livelihood initiative supporting local fisherfolk.
The newly certified trainers—Michael Taruc, Rogelio Marchan, Junrey Montoya, Arsel Lomoljo, and Johny Montoya—are now equipped to transfer their knowledge and skills to fellow MRDA members, helping ensure continuity in maintaining baking equipment and minimizing downtime in operations.
The second batch of trainees was mentored by graduates of the first ToT cycle, namely Rodrigo Parahili, Judy Montoya, Jovy Montoya, Rhomie Salibongcogon, Susano Malicay, and Evelyn Malicay, who facilitated the sessions and guided participants through hands-on exercises, including high- and low-voltage control circuit applications.
The success of the ToT was made possible through the FISH Visayas Project, in collaboration with its key partners: the Siquijor Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (SCCII), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), LGU San Juan, and the AFOS Foundation.
As part of its broader capacity-building efforts, the FISH Visayas Project plans to develop a standardized training module focused on the maintenance and servicing of industrial electro and electrical controllers for bakery equipment. This initiative aims to ensure long-term sustainability and continued growth of community-based baking operations.
