Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Bohol – On April 3, 2025, a total of 48 food handlers representing various micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) completed training on Basic Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The training initiated through the FISH Visayas Project, aimed to strengthen the capacity of MSMEs to produce safe and high-quality food products, reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses and contamination, and ensure compliance with national food safety standards and regulations.
Facilitated by the Bohol Food Safety Team of the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the training sessions were conducted in the barangays of Saguise and Aguining, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Bohol.
The training covered a comprehensive range of food safety topics, including proper labeling practices, effective handwashing techniques, identification of food hazards (biological, chemical, and physical), prevention of cross-contamination, the importance of quality control, access to clean water, routine cleaning and sanitation procedures, and pest control. Participants also learned about waste disposal practices aligned with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regulations.
This successful training was made possible through the collaborative efforts of key project partners: Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, DOST Bohol Provincial S&T Office, LGU Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, and the AFOS Foundation.
Looking ahead, the FISH Visayas Project remains committed to building the capacities of MSMEs on food safety, supporting their efforts to improve product quality, expand market access, and promote sustainable enterprise development.
