CCCI -ACAS, FISH Visayas Project Develop the Basic Qualification Certificate Assessment Guidelines and Tools in the Seafood Processing Sector

Cebu City, Cebu – Fourteen (14) industry experts and in-school coordinators completed the Training of Assessors on the Basic Qualification Certificate (BQC) Assessment of the Seafood Production Worker (SPW) and Quality Inspector (QI) qualifications. The training was organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Assessment, Certification and Accreditation Services (CCCI – ACAS) from February 21-22, 2023 at the Cebu Chamber Centre, Commerce & Industry Streets, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City.

The rationale of the Dual Education and Training (DET) and the In-Company Training of learners were imparted to the participants on the first day of the training. These include discussions on the BQC assessment requirements, methods, and criteria. More than this, the technical Experts formulated 150 written tests and 20 panel discussion questions as part of the assessment tools.

On the second day of training, the experts conducted a simulation following the assessment flow. The simulation demo includes the briefing of learners, conduct of the portfolio evaluation, panel discussions, deliberation and feedbacking sessions. Mr. Marlon Valencia, a short-term expert engaged by CCCI ACAS facilitated the two-day training.

Recognizing the need to upskill the country’s workforce, efforts in highlighting industry participation in dual education and training has been a continuous effort bannered by AFOS Foundation and its local partner, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (CCCI). The inception of the Assessment, Certification, and Accreditation Services (ACAS) in CCCI in 2017 provided a platform to intensify the industry’s participation in workforce development. Thus, leveling the quality of demand and supply of the labor force.

The conduct of the Training of Assessors on the BQC Assessment of the Seafood Production Worker (SPW) and Quality Inspector (QI) qualifications aspires to achieve Result Area 2: Dual Training in Fisheries of the FISH Visayas Project. This is part of the preparation for the conduct of the Basic Qualification Certificate Assessment of 26 pilot trainees for the seafood cluster to be conducted on March 3 and 10, 2023.
